Children’s Media and Gender

At a Glance

Gender stereotypes in the media have been present as far back as the media goes. Stories children were told of Robin Hood and his Merry Men, with Maid Marian playing the ever-present damsel in distress and fairy tales of Cinderella getting rescued by her prince. The idea of gender roles has been heavily influential throughout Western forms of mass media.
